In the age of social networking, Facebook has become an inseparable part of all our lives. Most of us cannot go a day without logging into our Facebook accounts to check up on what our friends and family have been up to. Well, if you are a Facebook addict like me, you’ve probably heard all about the new nifty profile interface known as Timeline.
Timeline for Facebook was finally made available to users on December 15, 2011. After months of testing, developers finally decided to open up Timeline to the general public and you can get a taste of it with a 7 day trial!
How to get Facebook Timeline?
Switching to Timeline is very easy really. All you have to do is click on the ‘Get Timeline’ button which should appear on your profile page and voila!
New Facebook Timeline Features
Facebook Timeline is not just a cosmetic change to your profile page but it comes packed with a number of new features to make your social networking experience a more enjoyable one.
First in the list of new features is a tool known as Activity Log. Activity Log is a very handy new feature and it lets you control what will or will not appear on your Timeline. Making use of the Activity Log, you can very easily hide or delete posts from timeline or “feature” important posts. You can access this tool by clicking on the View Activity button which appears just under the cover photo.
Speaking of the cover photo, now you can add a large banner like picture to feature on your page aside from the tradition profile pic. The Cover Photo is also a brand new feature introduced by Facebook on Timeline.
Editing Visibility on Facebook Timeline
When you switch to the new Timeline, you can feature some of your posts for the whole world to see or hide them just as easily. When you make a post on Timeline, you’ll see a little star on the top right hand side of your post. Clicking the ‘Feature’ button will enable you to feature a particular post and set it apart as a prominent and important post for all others to see. If you want to edit or remove something, clicking on the ‘Pencil’ button which appears right next to the ‘Feature’ star will let you do so. If you want a particular post to be seen only by your friends or close friends or your family, you can select the option to do so by clocking on the ‘Globe’ button next to the post’s date. So, we see that Timeline has made it much easier for users to access certain settings which were not so easy to get to in the old Facebook profile interface.
Once you decide to upgrade to Timeline, Facebook will give you a trial period of 7 days to check and re-check that you’re happy with how the new interface will appear to those who visit your page. Then you can decide whether to stick with the classic Facebook interface or go with the new and exciting Facebook Timeline!
